Abstract
Energy router is an emerging conceptual device based on advanced power electronic technique. It is able to realize the flexible and dynamic electric power distribution in power systems as information router in the Internet. It is of great interest to investigate how the energy router can be used to improve the power system operation. This paper proposes a generalized configuration of the energy router. The steady-state model for the energy router is derived to build its power flow equations. An iterating algorithm is proposed for system power flow calculations considering energy router. Case studies are carried out on a modified IEEE RTS-79 system with energy router under different control strategies. Results show that the energy router is able to promote the operation of power system in a more flexible manner in terms of adjusting branch power flow, improving bus voltage and reducing active power losses of the grid.
