Abstract

In this paper, we describe an industrial application of the generalized predictive control (GPC) strategy. The controlled plant consists of a fluidized bed calcination reactor. The calcination process is aimed to eliminate the carbonic components and other impurities contained in the phosphate mineral. The chemical reactions of enrichment of the product occur in the calcinator1 at high temperature. The reactor temperature is in fact a predominant criterion of the final product quality. A low temperature in the calcinator produces a non sellable product, and a high temperature drags a waste of energy and may deteriorate the equipments.
