Abstract
Generalized oscillator strengths have been determined at 300, 400, and 500 eV for the 61S0→ 61P1,61S0→ 71S0, and 61S0→ 71P1 transitions in mercury. The generalized oscillator strength curves for the 61S0→ 61P1 transition separate with kinetic energy in the vicinity of the first minimum indicating deviations from the Born approximation. A minimum is also observed in the generalized oscillator strength curves for the 61S0→ 71S0 transition. The Born approximation does not hold for this transition. The generalized oscillator strength for the 61S0→ 71P1 transition shows strong effects of configuration interaction at small ΔP.
