Abstract

Generalized oscillator strengths have been measured for the 61S0→63P1, 61S0→ 6p′3 P1, and 61S0→ 7p′1 P1 transitions in mercury at 500−eV electron kinetic energy and scattering angles θ = 2° − 7°. These measurements have been put on an absolute basis using previously determined generalized oscillator strengths [J. Chem. Phys. 52, 2708 (1970)] for the 61S0→61P1 transition. These experimental data have been extrapolated to (Δ P)2=0 to obtain the following limiting oscillator strengths: 61S0→63P1, f0 = 0.0285 ± 0.0035 ; 61S0→ 6p′3 P1, f0 = 0.704 ± 0.070 ; 61S0→ 7p′1 P1, f0 = 0.067 ± 0.009.
