Abstract
The concept of harmonic oscillator functions is generalized to the multidimensional space of the N-body system. Explicit expressions are found for these functions. They are shown to constitute a complete orthonormal set of basis functions in which one can expand the radial functions of the hyperspherical approach. Because of the wrong asymptotic behavior of the harmonic oscillator basis a method for correcting the expansion is also given.
