Generalized Feynman-Hellmann theorem for ensemble average values

Abstract

We extend the well-known Feynman-Hellmann theorem, usually suitable for pure state average values, to the case of mixed states. The generalized Feynman-Hellmann theorem in the form of ensemble average values is derived. An application of the new form to the corresponding virial theorem is also given.
