Abstract

From material balance considerations mathematical expressions have been developed for gas absorption or desorption rates in single-bubble systems in terms of liquid-phase mass-transfer coefficients. The effect of bubble age on bubble size and gas composition for relatively short bubble residence times have been derived explicitly and also expressed in convenient graphical forms. The usefulness of these expressions in the evaluation of mass transfer coefficients in bubble dispersions is illustrated.
