Abstract
As we are compelled, on the one hand, in view of the title of this lecture and, on the other, by the time we have at our disposal and the complexity of the subject matter, the following exposition will be a brief general outline on the subject of social security systems in Spain and in South America. For further details, and especially for the comparative analysis of these systems — and of world systems generally — it may prove useful to consult the book published every other year by the United States Health, Education and Welfare Department, Social Security Programs throughout the World. Regarding the Spanish system in particular, which is that taken mainly as a guide in the exposition, reference is made to the book’ social Security Institutions’ (5th edition, Madrid, Institute of Political Studies, 1974).
