Abstract
Herbal medicines include the Chinese crude drugs, Chinese crude drug cuts, Chinese crude drug extracts and Chinese patent medicines. With the development of the scientific technology, the quality control standards of herbal medicines have greatly improved. It is not enough to evaluate the quality of herbal medicines only according to the microscopic identification. In order to control the quality of herbal medicines, the adoption of identified chemical components, active components and standardized Chinese crude drugs can be utilized as effective tools to evaluate methods. The application of reference substances (RS) has improved the specificity, sensitivity and accurateness of these test methods. As an important method for quality control of herbal medicines, RS are extensively used.
