Genealogies of Memory: Collective vs. Collected Memories. 1989-1991 from an oral history perspective. Abstract A Conference Report This article is a report from the international conference “Genealogies of Memory: Collective vs. Collected Memories. 1989-1991 from an oral history perspective”, organized in Warsaw on 6-9 November 2014, by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity in cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Imre Kertesz Kolleg in Jena. The question posed to conference participants concerned, among other things, the problem of who remembers (individuals or groups) and how the collective memory of individuals has influenced and changed the collective memory of events from 1989-1991. An important goal of this conference was to obtain a multi-perspective image of the transformation that affected the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Among the many experts invited for the conference there were James V. Wertsch, Jan Kubik, Alexander von Plato and Miroslav Vanek. Lutz Niethammer was invited as special guest.
