Abstract
In this study at which examining the field knowledge on hybridization of chemistry teacher candidates was examined, one of the qualitative research methods, descriptive scanning method, was used. The study was carried out with a total of 36 chemistry teacher candidates who graduated from the faculty of chemistry of different universities who were taking formation classes at the Faculty of Education of Uludağ University in the spring semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The data were collected by semi-structured interview form with five open-ended questions developed on the researcher's side and evaluated by descriptive analysis. According to the findings obtained from the research, it was determined that most of the prospective teachers had problems in explaining the hybrid orbit formation emerging from atomic orbitals and that the materials they know in everyday life were inadequate in determining the hybrid orbital pattern. For this reason, it has been concluded that it is important for the teachers to explain to high school and secondary school level students in the most detailed way by using the teaching techniques and materials.
