Abstract
The diction by Sapardi Djoko Damono in a collection of Sajak Ayat-Ayat Api many problem retaled to the politic tragedy of 1998 therefore the focus of this research the style of language as well as the effects of the language. The purpose of this research is to know the style of language used by Sapardi Djoko Damono in a collection of verses of Fire verses and to discover the effect of using the style of language in the verses of the fire verses. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative approach The results of the study found that the style of language used is especially dictioned using words that are thought to represent the thoughts, feelings and inner experiences of the poet. Diction that often appears related to the terrible atmosphere at the time, so it gives a profound effect like the word fire, drought, silence, waiting for a connotation leads to an unpleasant.
