Abstract

DOI: https://doi.org/10.32444/IJSW.2018.79.3.277-290 The paper celebrates the contribution of Prof. Banerjee as a pioneer in indigenising social work education. Not only did she introduce medical and psychiatric social work as a specialisation at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (erstwhile Sir Dorabjee Tata School of Social Work) in 1948, but also demonstrated its practice in public hospitals and clinics. Her 40 plus papers and books analyse Indian concepts and indigenous practice in the teaching of professional social work.
