Abstract

Social work education in India has been undergoing substantial changes for the past few decades. Social work education and practice in the field often diverge in our country. There are many dimensions to perceive this issue like the lack of social work models, absence of indigenous literature, educators without social work degree, misconception of the social work profession, intergenerational gap, etc. The primary methods of social work with Western influence often get complicated while practicing in India which is a country with huge diversity. The present chapter is an attempt to understand the challenges faced by practitioners and educators in the development of social work as a profession.
