Abstract

The need for a framework for guiding supervisory and clinical staff in providing and documenting individualized, goal-oriented treatment in community settings is identified. This paper describes such a framework (GATES) which has been operational in a community mental health day treatment center for over a year. The historical background leading to GATES, a description of the system, and a discussion of administrative and empirical issues are provided.
