Abstract

A systematic scheme is presented for the analysis without pre-chromatography of most of the major neutral steroid metabolites in urine. Those measured are the glucosiduronates of 11-deoxy-17 -oxosteroids, of 11-oxygenated-17-oxosteroids, and of four groups of corticosteroids convertible to 17-oxosteroids by quantitative sodium bismuthate oxidation after cleavage with beef-liver β-glucuronidase; and also the sulphates of the major 11-deoxy-17-oxosteroids, after cleavage by solvolysis under conditions not affecting the glucosiduronates. Normal values are given. When results are expressed in terms of mg steroid per g excreted creatinine for 24hr. collections, there is no significant sex difference in outputs of any steroid or group of steroids.
