Abstract

In this text, the author discusses the dialogue between individual ecstatic experience and collective ludic experience in electronic music consumption among middle and upper class youth in Bogota, Colombia. Drawing on Victor Turner’s concept of communitas and on discussions about the meaning of ecstatic trance in secular sectors, the author proposes paths for the analysis of the dynamics of youth identity construction in the context of the solipsism-collectivism tension.
