Abstract

SummaryGanglioneuroma is a rare tumor which occurs in 60% before the age of 20 years, mostly in the posterior mediastinum. It is characterized by a slow growth and a benign evolution. Histologically it is made up of mature ganglion cells and a dense neurofibrillary network containing Schwann cells. There arc no signs of malignancy such as neuroblasts or pseudorosettes. We report on a 15-year-old girl in which a « silent » abdominal mass was discovered during the annual medical school inspection. Only surgical intervention and anatomo-pathological examination yielded the diagnosis of a retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma.
