Abstract

The directional correlation between the 1.119 MeV gamma ray and the 0.885 MeV gamma ray in the de-excitation of excited Ti 46 was measured in an effort to strengthen the spin and parity assignment of the 2.004 MeV state, and to try to determine the mixing ratio of multipolarities in the upper transition. The data yield a least-squares solid-angle-corrected correlation function W( θ) = 1+(0.1049±0.0020) P 2(cos θ)+(0.0057±0.0030) P 4(cos θ). This is consistent with the assignment (4+) for the 2.004 MeV state and the inclusion of at most (0.005%±0.002%) M3 radiation mixed with pure E2 radiation in the 1.119 MeV gamma ray.
