Abstract
Alpha-gamma angular correlations in the reaction 12C( 3He, αγ) 11C lead to the most probable assignments of J = ≦ 5 2 , 5 2 and 3 2 for the states ar 2.00, 4.32 and 4.81 MeV, respectively. The 4.81 MeV state was observed to decay to the 2.00 MeV state abd the ground state with branch intensities of 16±3% and 84±3%, respectively. Photon-gamma angular correlations in the reaction 12C( 3He, ϱγ) 14N reconfirmed that the spin of the 7.03 MeV state is 2. A 2±1% decay to the 3.95 MeV state is reported. In the 8.95 MeV state, gamma-ray decay competes successfully with proton emission. It decays only to the 6.44 MeV state. The angular correlation of the resulting 2.51 MeV gamma ray may be reconciled with the spin of the 8.95 MeV state being ≦ 5. Reasonable arguments show that 5 +, 4 + or 3 + are the most probable values.
