Abstract

Prestressed and post-tensioned concrete structures are susceptible to corrosion if the tensioned steel is exposed to chlorides or a neutral pH environment. Since the mid 1970’s many advancements have been made in the understanding of the corrosion protection requirements for prestressed and post-tensioned concrete structures. Simultaneously, research and application of galvanic corrosion protection systems to address corrosion in these structures has resulted in the development of galvanic systems that are available to provide a full range of corrosion protection levels without risk to the prestressing steel.
