Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of Galectin-1 in gastric cancer and their clinical significanc. Methods Streptavid-in-peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of galectin-1 in 124 specimens including 124 normal tissue,124 carcinoma sides tissues,124 gastric carcinomaand.Real-time RT-PCR and Western blotting was used to detect galectin-1 expression in 124 fresh specimens of gastric carcinoma and normal gastric tissue. The survival curve was drawn by Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival rates of the patients were analyzed by Log-rank test. Results The Galectin-1 expression in cancerous tissue increased significantly compared with that in the para-cancerous tissue (P < 0.01),the positive expression of galectin-1 has more recurTence and shorter survival. Conclusion Galectin-1 may be involved in the development and progression of gastric cancer, and relate to the infiltration, differentiation, lymphnode metastasis and recurrence of gastric cancer. Key words: Galectin-1 ; Gastric cancer; Metastasis ; Invasion ; Prognosis
