Abstract

Spherical dielectric shells are studied to improve the gain of arrays of compact elements at lower frequencies, where the distance between elements is much smaller than half wavelength. The formulations required to define the shell geometry are developed. Two and four element arrays are designed and simulated with and without shells to test the technique, and promising results are obtained at lower frequencies for the array with shells.
