Abstract

This paper illustrates, Gain enhancement approaches in a biconcave patch by the implementation of a circular-shaped complimentary split ring resonator (CSRR). The proposed biconcave patch has been designed to operate at 25GHz frequency which lies under millimeter wave bands (24-86GHz). As millimeter wave range have been recognized as 5G spectrum, the proposed patch can be applicable in 5G communication. The biconcave patch has been printed on a FR4-epoxy dielectric substrate of size 50×50mm having dielectric constant 4.4. For improvement of gain, the biconcave patch has been implemented with CSRR and the effect of number of CSRR structures on antenna gain have been observed. The High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software has been used for the simulation of proposed patch. The antenna has a gain of 1.88dB without application of CSRR and it has been boosted to 3.27dB when applied with CSRR. Along with antenna gain, the S11-parameter, VSWR, directivity and radiation efficiency have been analyzed and compared for different stages of proposed biconcave design.
