Abstract

The battery energy storage system (BESS) can quickly supplement the power demand of the power load and absorb the peak power generated by new energy. Therefore, the installed capacity of the BESS in the power system continues to increase, and it has been more and more widely used in the frequency modulation control of the power system. A fuzzy logic based control method for BESS to participate in power system frequency regulation control is proposed. The area control error (ACE) signal and the state of charge (SOC) of the energy storage battery are used as control inputs, thus the frequency regulation demand determined by ACE signal and the SOC limit of the energy storage battery are integrated to realize both health management of the energy storage battery and the frequency regulation control of the power grid.
