Abstract
Induction motor find wide application in the industrial fields like textile mills, compressors, pumps and machine tools, etc. This paper compares the performance of induction motor and to improve the efficiency with unity power factor in both steady state and transient state. During load variation the power losses increases and the performance of induction motor reduces. Intelligent control technique is used in the feedback circuit to reduce the losses and improve the performance. Based on settling time, dynamic response, transient response and set speed variation the performance of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is compared with that of the conventional PI Controller. The Mamdani FLC is designed with two inputs, one output and 25 rules. Two inputs to the fuzzy logic controller are error and change in error. Error is the difference between set speed and actual speed while change in error is the difference between present error and previous error. Each input function is defined with five triangular membership functions and centroid defuzzification method is used. The simulation results for the PI controller and the fuzzy logic controller are presented. The simulation results of the two controllers are compared and the results show the superiority of the fuzzy logic controller in controlling three-phase induction motor. The simulated design is tested using various tool boxes in MATLAB.
