Abstract

BM (Bench Method), CDM (Central-Diaphragm Method) and DSDM (Double-Side-Drift Method) are widely used in large cross-section tunnel. It is necessary to select the best construction method. In this paper, the FCES (Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation System) shows how to get the score of each construction method. FCES chooses nine specific indicators, such as, project cost. Firstly, indicators are quantified. Data is standardized. Secondly, evaluation matrix of each construction method should be obtained by comment set and membership function. Thirdly, the weight of each indicator should be obtained through EM (Entropy Method). Finally, the evaluation matrix, comment set and weight are multiplied to get the scores of each construction method, then the best construction method is selected according to the scores. FCES is applied in a tunnel project, using the FEM (Finite Element Method) to simulate each construction method respectively to get data. In rocks of grade V, FCES shows that DSDM is the best construction method, and excavation sequences have little influence. Hence, FCES can be used to choose the best construction method.
