Abstract

Currently the first generation satellite INSAT-1D is operational and is being used for Telecommunication, Television and Sound Broadcasting and Meteorological Observations including Disaster Warning. In future the second generation satellites INSAT-2 series basically indigenously designed, fabricated, integrated and tested by ISRO will be launched. The first of these is expected to be operational by mid-1992. These satellites will have larger communication capacity and wider connectivity for the network. In this lecture-article the requirements of the future satellites are brought out. The television requirements will include, direct to community broadcasting, State or Regional TV networks, National TV network, Educational TV network, Satellite news gathering talk back systems, and Video Conferencing systems.
