Abstract
In general, the major forces driving the development of logic synthesis and other design tools today and in the future are fairly obvious. First, the pace of technology and new product development shows no signs of slowing down, and second, the need to remain competitive demands that the cost of the products and their development costs and schedules must be continually improved. Since ASICs are such an integral part of new product development, their continued growth in size and performance requires ever more capable design and logic synthesis tools.
