Abstract

Artificial materials with piezoelectric properties have been increasingly investigated as potential candidates for replacing various living tissues. In this manuscript, results of studies on the synthesis and characterization PVDF/PLA blend filaments containing piezoelectric/ferroelectric PVDF β-phase are reported. SEM images reveal that all studied filaments are immiscible blends, while FTIR results reveal blends with a predominance of PVDF β-polar phase whose highest percentage (75%) was observed for the mass ratio of 80% of PVDF to 20% of PLA. This blend shows adequate characteristics for biomedical applications when processed by filament fabrication techniques.
