Abstract

In addition to the major biographies of Che Guevara discussed by Richard Harris elsewhere in this issue, the recent commemoration of Che's death was marked by the publication of a number of useful works, among them three from Ocean Press of Melbourne, Australia. All these volumes help considerably to fill the gap of information about dating to my own compilation of works up to two decades ago (Chilcote and Lutjens, 1986). One section of the extensive bibliography on the Cuban Revolution entitled Cuba, 19531978: A Bibliographical Guide to the Literature provides a full bibliography of the works of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro along with books and articles about them. Volume 2, chapter 63, 'Che' Speeches, Interviews, Letters, Press Conferences, has 302 entries, and chapter 64, Guevara: Books, Pamphlets, Articles by Che, has 783. One way to approach Che's thought would be to begin with the selection of readings organized by David Deutschmann, drawn from the two comprehensive Spanish-language editions of Che's works: the nine-volume Ernesto Che Escritosy discursos (Havana: Ciencias Sociales, 1977) and the two-volume Ernesto Che Obras escogidas, 1956-67 (Havana: Casa de las Americas).
