Abstract
This study reports the first extensive reliability and validity assessment of the Belief in Human Benevolence scale. The scale possesses satisfactory levels of reliability and impressive convergent validity with numerous criteria. Multi-variate analysis techniques reinforce this conclusion. Unfortunately, the scale is subject to unwanted contamination from social desirability response style variance. Further, the total scale can be improved by the revision or elimination of several unreliable and/or invalid items.
