Abstract

In an expansion of an earlier project tracking people who had reached goal weight, the present study followed a sample of 60 people, who had reached goal weight, for 1 year. There were 90% that remained below the criterion of 75% overweight (compared with 94% in the prior sample); 62% succeeded in limiting regain to less than 20% of amount lost (compared with 58% in the prior sample). An eight-item score that predicted relapse successfully in the prior sample was not valid in the second group. Overall, successful maintenance of weight loss down to normal range appears to be a reliable result.
