Abstract

This research paper discusses the creative style, language and endeavor by Olena Kulyk, a person with encyclopedic education, who belongs to the dynasty of the artists working in the technique of Pertykiv decorative painting. The artist does her best to preserve and promote the Ukrainian technique above and proved to be successful such an effort due to her professional approach and numerous talents. According to Ms Kulyk, the technique of Pertykiv decorative painting is a good tool to release celestial beauty and agape. Her exquisite creative style and advanced education helped her to understand and reveal the indoor space of St.Michael Archangel Cathedral in the city of Zhytomyr. Olena Kulyk is a part of the team involved in the decoration and painting project. The concept of the projecton paintings of St. Michael Cathedral in Zhytomyr belongs to the artist Denys Belyansky with the participation of the creative team.Ms Kulyk joined the group of artists who have been decorating the above cathedral for over fifteen years. Petrykivskyi ornamental painting by Olena Kulyk in theinterior of St. Michael's Cathedral in Zhytomyr became an exquisite frame for medallions and cruciform compositions with scenes depicting saints, prophets, angels, archangels and passionate scenes, etc. Decorative eleme nts of painting by Olena Kulyk, which are noted for the artist’s manner and creative interpretation, acquired a new meaning in the space of the temple, in both the context of aesthetics of Petrykiv folk decorative painting and semantic content of the space of the Orthodox church. This research paper offers a look to creative activities by Olena Kulyk from the point of view of the innovations and techniques that she used to decorate St.Michael Archangel Cathedral in Zhytomyr.
