Abstract
Zoospores of the obligately parasitic chytrid Rozella allomycis encyst and germinate after settling on a hypha of the host, the watermold Allomyces arbuscula. Zoospores deprived of a host also encyst after aging, but do not germinate. Hence, means were sought to induce encystment of young zoospores, in order to test whether they would subsequently germinate in the absence of a host.
