Abstract

Islamic fundamentalist is regarded as party who are most responsible for bloody events in various parts of world, including in Indonesia. The various terms are offered by experts to give the only perfect description of this group; radical Islamists, and neo-fundamentalism. In fact, a variety of terms has been crystallized as used interchangeably in literature of contemporary Islamic movements. The West has defined it as radicalism and terrorism. In Middle Eastern countries, movement of Islamic radicalism has been deeply engrained and has a long history. However, in terms of genealogy, it confirms that there is a radical Islam group coming from two religious organizations, al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin, (Hasan al-Banna) and Jamaat Islami, (Abu A'la al-Mawdudi). it proliferates into radical Islamic movements in various parts of Muslim world, even various shapes and Indonesia is no exception.
