Abstract

Fabrication of dissimilar steel-based (SS316LSi over ER70S-6 steel) functionally graded deposition (FGD) using twin wire arc additive manufacturing (T-WAAM) via a unique deposition strategy is investigated in this work. Optical, SEM, EDS, X-ray diffraction (XRD), tensile, hardness, and fractography analyses were undertaken for complete microstructural and mechanical characterisation. Microstructural analysis revealed columnar, equiaxed, and cellular dendrites in δ-ferrite and austenitic phases. XRD investigation depicted the anisotropic behaviour of specimen textures in various planes. The estimated value of average ultimate tensile strength is 901 MPa, yield strength (YS) is 634 MPa, and percentage elongation (EL%) is 48 %, respectively. This work offers a novel strategy for producing superior-strength dissimilar steel components with excellent quality and varied structural utility.
