Abstract
A broadband ultrasound transducer composed of a piezoelectric plate with a graded piezoelectric parameter is presented. Grading of the piezoelectric constant is performed by forming an appropriate temperature gradient in the thickness direction of a fully polarized piezoelectric ceramic plate that has a low Curie temperature. It is shown experimentally that the functionally graded transducer is capable of emitting an almost single-pulse ultrasonic wave.
