Abstract

The functionality type distribution of epichlorohydrin oligomers synthesized in 1,2-dichloroethane in the presence of THF·BF 3 and low molecular hydroxyl containing compounds is studied by adsorption chromatogrpahy. The oligomers contain small quantities of side products, which decrease the mean number-average functionality, mainly because of the formation of monofunctional macromolecules during the synthesis of diol oligomers or diols and monools during the synthesis of polyesters, because of residual moisture in the reaction medium. The fractionation results show that there are branched and linear molecules in the oligoester diols.
