Abstract

A functionally modified methacrylate copolymer of poly (p-cumylphenyl methacrylate-co-Ethyl methacrylate) (CPMA-co-EMA) has been synthesized with various feed composition ratios via free radical polymerization technique. The synthesized copolymer has been characterized by using FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability has also been studied using thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA). The surface morphology of poly (p-cumylphenyl methacrylate-co-Ethyl methacrylate) was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The glass-transition temperature of polymer and copolymers was determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The molecular weights and polydispersity indexes of the polymers and copolymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Hence, this kind of functional modified copolymers has been utilized for industrial and medical applications.
