Abstract

Summary Training is a key focus for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) administration of its nationwide network of eighty-three Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries (PTDLs). With ever-widening access to patent and trademark data through a variety of print and electronic media, training is what differentiates the public service expectations at a PTDL from all other libraries. The author will explore two primary training vehicles employed by the USPTO in building intellectual property knowledge management skills in PTDL librarians. These librarians are evolving into highly specialized patent and trademark information experts, a newly developing area of library expertise
