Abstract
The finite-difference time domain and plane-wave expansion methods were used toinvestigate in detail air–rod-type photonic crystals (PhCs) with ultrahigh-index backgroundmaterials. Numerical results show that full-angle self-collimations are possible for somefrequencies, according to equal-frequency contour analysis. The reflection losses can bereduced and the size of collimated refracted beams can be increased by adding a specialinterface to the PhC slab.
