Abstract
1H-Pyrrolo[2,3-d]carbazole is able to act as a verAlkaloidssatile building block for the syntheses of diverse indole alkaloids. The development of efficient synthetic methodologies for such a tetracyclic scaffold is vital to the total syntheses of a variety of indole alkaloids. Based on the way in which the key chemical bonds are formed to construct 1H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]carbazole, B. Lin, M. Cheng, Y. Liu et al. summarize existing strategies including nucleophilic additions, Diels–Alder reactions, radical cyclizations, palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions, and miscellaneous reactions in their Minireview article on page 14302 ff. The representative examples and their applications in the total syntheses are described and discussed in depth.
