Abstract

The picture illustrates the potential of functional disilenes as a new tool within the toolbox of silicon chemists. It shows various inorganic salts on the left- and right-hand sides of the central 500-mL round bottom flask with freshly crystallized Tip2Si=Si(Tip)Li⋅2 dme (Tip=2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl; dme=1,2-dimethoxyethane) as an example of a functional disilene used in our group as the starting material for unsaturated silicon clusters and conjugated systems incorporating Si=Si moieties.
