Abstract

Ferritin protein cages self-assemble electrostatically with cationic pillararenes into porous crystalline framework structures. The frameworks can simultaneously host inorganic and organic pollutants—the protein cage shows uptake of heavy metals such as CdII and AsV. In contrast, the pillar[5]arene shows selective recognition of methyl orange, a common organic dye. More information can be found in the Research Article by M. A. Kostiainen et al.
