Abstract
: En la segunda mitad del siglo XIX se crea en talleres industriales de Barcelona una nueva iconografía de los cuatro continentes, que puede ser considerada como exclusivamente hispánica, ya que se hallan distribuidos por España e Hispanoamérica y no aparecen en otros países. Está ligada a indianos, comerciantes e industriales, que los ubican en los jardines de sus mansiones. Aunque en principio estaban destinados a ser realizados en terracota, los ejemplos conservados están ejecutados en piedra y mármol.
