Abstract

Vera Aleksandrovna Varsanofieva (1889–1976), a brilliant geologist and science communicator and organizer, was also a meticulous and serious­ minded historian of science. This is the publication of her unpublished article devoted to the history of early exploration of the territory of the Pechora­ Ilych National Biosphere Nature Reserve. This article is a chapter from her voluminous unpublished manuscript, which is fundamental description of nature and geography of the nature reserve territory as it was in 1946. This manuscript is stored part of V. A. Varsanofieva’s personal fonds in the Russian State Archive of Economics. Varsanofieva’s text is published with a foreword and relevant notional and archeographic comments.
