Abstract
Abstract This paper is derived from a joint research project between Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Brighton. In partnership, since September 1993, both universities have been investigating the state of education and training in physical education subject to the DFE circular 9/92. To date, focus has mainly been placed upon the secondary postgraduate certificate in education and the Bachelor of Education courses offered at both institutions. It is the intention of the project team to study all aspects of teacher training through partnership. However, up to this point the central focus in research has been upon the web of relationships within the partnership structure with specific reference to the subject mentor and trainee.
