Abstract
Recently, evidence of G protein-linked signalling in specific frizzled receptors following Wnt ligand binding has been presented[ 1 Slusarski D.C Corces V.G Moon R.T Nature. 1997; 390: 410-413 Crossref PubMed Scopus (544) Google Scholar ]. We have drawn similar conclusions concerning this signalling pathway following detailed amino acid alignments between the frizzled protein family and the major G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) families. Sequence alignments suggest that frizzled proteins constitute a novel GPCR family most closely related to the secretin receptor family (Fig. 1).
