Abstract

Abstract In this study, an equivalent test rig for a vane–chute pair was designed to study the vane motion behaviour and its friction characteristics. A mixed lubrication model of oil film on both sides of the vane was proposed using the average Reynolds equation and contact model. We achieved the vane friction on the compression chamber side and suction chamber side by solving the model equation using the finite difference and the Broyden iterative. The simulated results showed good agreement with experimental results, and the vane exhibited distinctly second-order motion characteristics, which affected the oil film thickness of the vane–chute pair and further affected the lubrication status. The lubrication status varied dynamically on both sides of the vane.
